Testimonies Regarding Organization’s Impact
Local speakers at BCC Rally’s Pink Bow Gala, the culminating event of the BCC Rally fundraising week, gave moving testimony regarding the impact the organization has made since its founding in 2004.
Lori Vaccaro, executive director of Komen Charlotte, noted, “In 1980, 74% of women diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer lived beyond the five-year mark. Thanks to the investments in research that BCC Rally has helped us fund, today 98% of women diagnosed with stage 1 will live beyond the five-year year mark.”
Joe Pagani, co-founder of GoJenGo Foundation with his wife Jen to provide financial assistance and emotional support to local, in-need survivors, relayed her six-year struggle with breast cancer despite a year’s prognosis.
“As a two-time Ironman finisher, she’s incredibly strong,” he said. “What’s also helped us get this far is Komen-funded research that developed the drug Herceptin – funds that you helped raise. It’s made a death sentence something we can fight.”.
