Charlotte, N.C. Aug. 1 — Komen Charlotte said today that Duke University Medical Center and UNC-Chapel Hill will receive $3.6 million of Susan G. Komen’s 2013 breast cancer research funding. The sum represents nearly ten percent of the $42 million in research awards announced today by the world’s largest non-governmental funder of breast cancer research.
“These awards show what heavy hitters our North Carolina researchers are,” said Lori Vaccaro, Komen Charlotte’s executive director, who pointed out that since 1982, Komen has invested more than $26 million in research funding to various institutions in the state.
